Flying High Lyrics

Flying High

I was not born brave

I walked in shaky shoes

So afraid of falling, failing

Scared to speak my truth

But life took a two by four

And knocked me from the nest

I closed my eyes and feared the worst

And never would have guessed (I’d be)

Flying high

No, no, nothing gonna get me down

I’m flying high

My feet are off the ground

Clear blue sky, such a pretty view

Flying high’s what we were born to do

All those years I wasted

Scared to just let go

Holding on to terra firma

I just didn’t know

The winds of change would lift me

Free and clear

Feels like I’ve won freedom from

The gravity of fear (And I’m)

Chorus

It’s not just for the birds or for the brave

Each of us can spread our wings and step out on faith (We’ll be)

Flying high

No, no, nothing gonna get us down

We’re flying high

Our feet are off the ground

Clear blue sky, Whoo hoo, hoo

Flying high’s what we were born to do

Let Your Life Be Great

Little girl in a small town

Had some big dreams, people put her down

Don’t get your hopes up, her mama would say

That little girl just laughed and said, I’ll do it my way

What good are low hopes, small dreams

Slight expectations are such silly things

If you want it all you can’t play it safe

It takes real courage to let your life be great

Whoa whoa whoa whoa, Whoa whoa whoa (X2)

His songs came straight from his soul

They said, you’ll never hear that on the radio

But he dared to dream, yeah, he proved them wrong

Now everybody is singing his song

Chorus

Now maybe you’ve got voices saying No Can Do

Don’t you listen to them ‘cause this world needs you

You got to slay that dragon, find your heart’s desire

Don’t let nobody put out your fire

Chorus

The Stars (Og’s Song)

Everything pretty, everything nice

I used to wish that was the way of life

Everything perfect, in its place

Everyone happy with a smile of their face

Once I ran from the shadows

Afraid of sadness and pain

But sunshine feels much sweeter now

Since I’ve tasted the rain

Now I love the light, embrace the day

For it shows me the way

Yet I bear the night, endure the dark

For it shows me the stars

I stop to listen, stop to pray

I grow a little more day by day

I’m far from finished, but it’s a start

I set my course and heed my heart

Some days the waves may overtake me

But what doesn’t kill me makes me strong

There’re miles and miles of grace between

The shores of right and wrong

Chorus:

God Thing

It takes a month of money

Just to pay the rent

And Uh, oh, there you go, honey

Looks like it’s all been spent

Say a prayer and dare to hope

Tear open an envelope

Hot dang, the Holy Grail

You’ve got money in the mail

It’s a good thing

When it takes you by surprise

Hits your heartstrings

Right between the eyes

There’s no accounting

For the gifts that life can bring

If it’s a good thing

It’s a God thing

He left you sad and cryin’

Found someone he preferred

You swore, I’m done with tryin’

Love is for the birds

Feels good, you’re finally free

You get yourself a PhD

Then Ooo La La the stars align

You meet love in the grocery line

Chorus

You can scratch your head

And analyze for days and days

But you never will uncover

His mysterious ways

Chorus

Second Chance

Sittin’ in the backseat of my car

Strummin’ on my old guitar

Singin’ songs with my wooden friend

Thinkin’ back a year ago it was almost the end

I still feel the echoes of the day I got the news

When it dawned I had everything to lose

By prayers of strangers and love of family

Everyday I walk this world is all a gift to me (‘cause)

I got a second chance

To laugh and love, to sing and dance

And oh, I know it’s a sweet and precious gift

A second chance to live

Some stay awhile some say good-bye

Who knows when who knows why

But we all have a chance to try

Learning how to love

When it’s my time when all my work is done

He’ll call my name and I’ll be gone

And I’ll finally see my father’s face

And stand before the love of His amazing grace

And I’ll have a second chance

To laugh and love To sing and dance

And oh, I know it’s a sweet and precious gift

A second chance to live

A second chance

It’s Not the End

I met him on the south side of the Pensacola Pier

A solitary soldier of the sea

He looked to be 100 but his eyes were crystal clear

And when I spoke I swear he saw inside of me

He said you’re trying to figure out the wherefore’s and the why’s

But isn’t life supposed to be a big surprise

How it’s gonna turn out is not for us to know

Life’s a mystery, Enjoy the show

Everything will be okay in the end, my friend

And if it’s not okay, it’s not the end

I took a breath and let it out and felt a little peace

His wisdom seemed to soothe my troubled soul

That weight there on my shoulder finally took its leave

When I let go of trying to keep control

The old man smiled at me and said it was never in your hands

Don’t you think it makes God laugh up when we make plans

Chorus

The truth washed over me like some sweet song

Deep down inside I guess I knew it all along

Be Yourself

He got the brown eyes you got the blue

She loves accounting he can’t count to two

That one there’s a recluse that one’s chasing fame

Wouldn’t it be sad if we were all the same

One of you got this gift, one of you got that

Why would you want to be a copycat

Be yourself

You can’t go wrong

Be yourself

Sing your own song

Trust yourself

Don’t let your faith be shaken

Yeah, yeah, be yourself

Everybody else is taken

Maybe you like opera and your friends like pop

But crank it up baby, ain’t no need to stop

You’re one of a kind, only you there is

Strut your stuff, you really are God’s gift

You were meant to star in this big event

Just the way you are, ain’t no accident

Chorus

I gotta think that God was giving hints (Think about it)

Snowflakes, grains of sand and fingerprints

Chorus

May My Heart Break

As I lie here in the stillness of a brand new day

And imagine all the possibilities

I am humbled by this life and by the part I play

And my gratitude just brings me to my knees

This is my prayer, this is my plea

Could you blind me to all separation I might see

Bring down the wall, let judgment fall away

May my heart break open today

May I comfort any broken spirit I might see

May I reach out to those who’ve lost their way

Let me be the voice of kindness for a soul in need

Give me ears to hear and words to say

This is my prayer, this is my plea

Could you blind me to all separation I might see

Bring down the wall, let judgment fall away

May my heart break open today

Instrumental

Chorus

Wake Up

Stop the clock from ringin’

Hit the floor, the door, it’s rainin’

Oh, it’s just another day, another day

Get to work and hurry

If you can’t play or pray, don’t worry

‘Cause they’ll be another day

Will there be another day

Wake up, wake up, wake up

Don’t you see that you’re asleep

Wake up, wake up, wake up

And be who you were meant to be

Reflect in the mirror

Is the future any clearer

Or have you just closed your eyes—just close your eyes

Hear the voice inside you

Still the will and let it guide you

You know it’s not too late

Oh, it’s not too late

Chorus

Beyond the water-colored blue

Across the river someone’s calling you

Chorus

God Shaped Hole

He’s got GQ looks and a cool new car

Yeah, the women line up when he hits the bar

Full of booze and money but it’s not enough

He still feels empty when the sun comes up

There’s a God shaped hole

There’s a God shaped hole

There’s a God shaped hole inside of us

Only one thing gonna fill it up

Only one thing gonna fill it up

Late night lonely, she’s feeling blue

Thinks Ben & Jerry gonna see her through

But it’s just another gastronomic thrill

‘Cause she’s got a hunger nothing else can fill

There’s a God shaped hole (in our soul)

There’s a God shaped hole (in our soul)

There’s a God shaped hole inside of us

Only one thing gonna fill it up

Only one thing gonna fill it up

Weight-loss, politics and TV

iPhones, emails, shopping sprees

Psychics, religion, Sigmund Freud

All of them fail, yeah, to fill the void

(Of that) God shaped hole (in our soul)

There’s a God shaped hole (in our soul)

There’s a God shaped hole inside of us

Only one thing gonna fill it up

That God shaped hole (in our soul)

Yeah, there’s a God shaped hole

There’s a God shaped hole inside of us

Only one thing gonna fill it up (x4)

You Are Not Alone

Lonely boy, a tear-stained note of good-bye

Telling himself that no one cares if he lives or dies

And tonight my heart is with him

‘Cause I’ve walked in his shoes

If I could I’d share this wisdom

I’d tell him the truth

You are not alone

You are not alone

You are not alone

You are not alone

Homeless man, a mother who’s just lost her child

The soldier who sleeps while his lover weeps across the miles

And tonight my heart is with you

Though I’ve not walked in your shoes

I’m reaching out ‘cause I feel called

To say these words to you

Chorus

When you reach out to me and I to you then life is better

Come, let’s take each other’s hand we’re in this together

Chorus

You are not alone (Oh, I’ve been there too)

You are not alone (You know I’m here for you)

You are not alone (Somehow you’ve always known)

You are not alone

You are not alone (4x)

Walk By Faith

It’s a long road from here to where I’m going

And I surely do not know the way

But my feet are on the right path

And hope is overflowin’

And when in doubt I bow my head and pray

I walk by faith

When I can’t see

I reach out my hand

And let the Lord lead me

So I won’t stumble

In the middle of a deep dark night

I walk by faith

And not by sight

Sometimes my body gets to tremblin’

And that old fear just tries to slow me down

That’s when I cast my eyes to heaven

And I feel my soul surrenderin’

And get my feet right back on solid ground

Chorus

Some days it seems so hard to see

How to get from where we are

To where we want to be

Even though I know I’ll be okay

I keep cryin’ Lord show me the way

Show me the way yeah, yeah

Chorus
