Lyrics – Ordinary Life

Morning Prayer

Before the craziness begins
I breathe deep and go within
Here I am an empty cup
I pray God, please fill me up
Help me see your grand design
Lead me to a quiet mind
Right now I have all I need
All that’s left to do is breathe

Instrumental

Before the craziness begins
I breathe deep and go within
Here I am an empty cup
I pray God, please fill me up
Help me see your grand design
Lead me to a quiet mind
One more time I breathe you in
Before the craziness begins

Ordinary Life

My favorite cup of tea
Kitty curled up next to me
The lawn has all been mowed
And dinner’s on the stove
Sunlight dancin’ through the trees
A geometric tapestry
I take a breath and take it in
I’ll never have this day again

It’s an ordinary life, simple ordinary life
Nothin’ special so it seems
Unless you count everything
Just the normal day to day
Why it moves me, hard to say
It’s fabulously plain, amazingly mundane
My extraordinary, ordinary life

Family gathered ‘round
Sweet cacophony of sound
Birthday balloons float in the air
A generational affair
Then I slip away with you
And all the stars come into view
We leave our footprints in the sand
Heart to heart and hand-in-hand

In this ordinary life, simple ordinary life
Nothin’ special so it seems
Unless you count everything
Just the normal day to day
Why it moves me, hard to say
It’s fabulously plain, amazingly mundane
My extraordinary, ordinary life

Oh, the bliss… of ordinariness
We humans come and go
Soon goodbyes replace hellos
And someday when it’s my turn
I’ll look back on what I’ve learned
It’s not the great things we achieved
But how we danced and laughed and grieved
And held our loved ones close
‘Cause love that matters most

In this ordinary life, simple ordinary life
Nothin’ special so it seems
Unless you count everything
When I look back, I’ll recall
What touched me most of all
It was fabulously plain, amazingly mundane
Miraculously bland, unremarkably grand
My extraordinary, ordinary… life

Holy Money

From the time we’re still in diapers
Crawling around on our knees
We’re taught that it’s the root of all evil
And it don’t grow on trees
All the lies, you’d think it was a 4-letter word
Times are changin’ haven’t you heard (Now we know it’s)

Holy money, holy money
Holy money, holy money

Take a look at mother nature
There ain’t no limit on leaves
People come in every flavor
There’s plenty of sand on the beach
All these stars shinnin’ out to infinity
There’s enough for you and me (The same is true for)

Holy money, holy money
Holy money, holy money

Letting go, I let it flow
It’s so easy to begin
Give and take, circulate
Just like breathing out and in

The good book says it’s God’s good pleasure
Givin’ these riches to me
If I ask I will receive it
All I gotta do is believe
All this time I thought it was some great mystery
Turns out it’s just Love currency (It’s comin’ to me)

Holy money, holy money
Holy money, holy money

New Friends

New friends are silver, old friends are gold
Well, we must be platinum, sisters of the soul
It’s quite amazin’ all that we’ve been through
I just can’t imagine life without you

And we’ll always remember all our grand adventures
Yeah, we’ll reminisce in rockin’ chairs
We’ll be friends until we’re old and senile
Then we’ll be new friends

Maybe we’ll be neighbors and you can live next door
We’ll go out to dinner every night at four
Our boyfriends will be youngsters in their early seventies
Quite a pair of cougars, yeah, that’s you and me

And we’ll always remember all our grand adventures
Yeah, we’ll reminisce in rockin’ chairs
We’ll be friends until we’re old and senile
Then we’ll be new friends

A friend like you is a gem to treasure
Now more than ever, I suppose
‘Cause you know life is like a roll of toilet paper
The closer to the end, the faster it goes

And we’ll always remember all our grand adventures
Yeah, we’ll reminisce in rockin’ chairs
We’ll be friends until we’re old and senile
Then we’ll be new friends

You Matter

Do you know how much you matter
Do you know that you are loved
Do you know you’ve made a difference
In the lived you’ve touched

All the times you’ve felt unworthy
In the darkness of your soul
And all the lies you’ve told yourself
Just let ‘em go

‘Cause you… You matter
You… You matter

I can’t imagine all you’ve been through
‘Cause I’ve not walked in your shoes
But you will always have my heart
And I see you

You… You matter
You… You matter

Feel it all release
It’s there you’ll find your peace
You’ll find your peace

Do you know how much you matter
Do you know that you are loved
Do you know you’ve made a difference
In the lives you’ve touched

You… You matter
You… You matter

Runnin’ After You

Pointed toe, pirouette
You danced so gracefully
Raven hair, statuesque
All I wanted to be
You never knew how I worshipped you
Oh, the tears I’ve cried
Spent my whole life

Runnin’ after you
I was always runnin’ after you
Maybe that’s what I was born to do
Runnin’ after you

Just a kid, your baby sis
I prayed you could pretend
That I was cool, oh how I wished
That I could be your friend
But you couldn’t see all you meant to me
Day after day you were always walkin’ away
(and I was…)

Runnin’ after you
I was always runnin’ after you
Maybe that’s what I was born to do
Runnin’ after you

After all this life I’ve lived, you’d think that’d have changed
But I’m still reachin’ out for you, and you still dance away
It’s more than all the memories, more thank the blood we share
Sisters are forever, so forever I will be there

Chorus

Years gone by, we’re slowin’ down
Maybe someday you’ll turn around

Wrap You Up (Ruth’s Song)

My mother was a quilter, a poet and a sage
She wrote her life in fabric instead of on a page
She wrapped my life in wonder
Her love made me whole
Here’s the prayer with every stitch she wove into my soul

Let your mother wrap you up in love
Know that you are always taken care of
All is perfect and complete
When you laugh, love and believe
Let your mother wrap you up in love

She’d hold me in her arms and say, I’m not your only one
You’ve had other mothers in the stars, the moon and sun
The trees the air, the rivers
They’ve been your gifts since birth
Take care of them forever you’ll be held by Mother Earth

Let your mother wrap you up in love
Know that you are always taken care of
All is perfect and complete
When you laugh, love and believe
Let your mother wrap you up in love

Somehow she left her heart in every quilt she made
“When this you see, remember me,” drawn in her special way
She said, “when I leave this earth, don’t grieve me when I’m gone
I’ll be joinin’ up with Angels, and your Father/Mother God”

Let your mother wrap you up in love
Know that you are always taken care of
All is perfect and complete
When you laugh, love and believe
Let your mother wrap you up in love

I Will Be Your Voice

One life so small
In a world that’s run by giants
All torn apart
When the gavel falls
You can only scream in silence
Who hears your heart
We’ll see this through
I’ll speak for you

I will be your voice
I know your heart is broken
I will be your voice, your voice
I will be your voice
Your truth will be spoken
I… will… be… your
I will be your voice

Beyond your pain
Beyond the hurt and sorrow
I’ll help you see
Beyond today
Will be a bright tomorrow
Just lean on me
When you have no words
You’ll still be heard

Chorus

You deserve a better life, you deserve some help
You don’t have to do it all, by yourself

Chorus (x2)

Exiting The Womb

So many crying in the darkness
Anger and hate are buildin’ walls
In the shadow of the heartless
Blind to what connects us all
This broken world awaits the light that is you

We’re all lookin’ for a savior
Who’ll turn the darkness into dawn
But when we join hands with our neighbor
We become that beacon shinnin’ on
This broken world awaits the light that is you
You are the Light
You are the Light

We are not entering tomb
We are exiting the womb

Instrumental

Find your wisdom in the silence
That’s where you’ll find your voice
When we choose kindness over violence
Love becomes our only choice
This broken world awaits the light…

We are the Light
We are the Light
We are the Light

We are not entering tomb
We are exiting the womb

Tweezer Song

Each morning I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I tweeze a little hair or two
Without batting an eyelash
I pluck and I prune my mustache
I tweeze a little hair or two

They’re growing and growing
At a radical pace
And I’m in trouble
I’m mowing and mowing
Like weeds on my face
A sea of stubble
They’ve moved from my legs to my chin

In this charming new age
I put on my flannel PJ’s
And tweeze a little hair or four
The truth becomes clearer
In front of my lighted mirror
I tweeze a couple hundred more

They’re growing and growing
It’s out of control and I can’t take it
They’re glowing and showing
A sight to behold, for heaven’s sake it’s
Like I’m turning into a man

We’re in the E-lite club
The furry so-ro-ity club
We tweeze a little hair or two
And if you’re bedridden
I’ll help keep your secret hidden
I’ll tweeze a little hair for you

Together, together, we’ll keep them at bay
It’s all so taxing
Forever and ever, they won’t go away
Have you tried waxing
It never gets better, and we say Oy vey
There’s no relaxing
For THE rest of our plucking lives

Tell me what have I missed?
Electrolysis?
That made me scream
How about laser beams?
Cause threading’s just weird
Guess we’ll live with… a beard

Grateful

I promise in this moment
To keep my heart wide open
With every breath I take
I’m grateful (x2)

I am grateful, I am grateful
I am grateful, I am grateful

I am grateful, I am grateful
I am grateful, I am grateful

I promise in this moment
To keep my heart wide open
With every breath I take
I’m grateful (x2)

I am grateful, I am grateful
I am grateful, I am grateful

Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you

With every breath I take I’m grateful

America the Beautiful

O beautiful for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain
America, America
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea

Oh beautiful, compassionate shores
Where dreams and hope are born
Where kindness and civility
Can whether any storm
America, America
God heal this great divide
Let fear release, rekindle peace
Till all our hearts unite—you & me
From sea to shining sea

Pass It on

Pass it on, pass it on
You can’t take it with you when you’re gone
Pass it on, pass it on
Leave a little love behind you
Pass it on

For every prayer someone was prayin’
When I was scared and lost
For every time a friend was payin’
When I could not meet the cost
For every day I’ve found forgiveness
When I was in the wrong
I will pass it on

Pass it on, pass it on
You can’t take it with you when you’re gone
Pass it on, pass it on
Leave a little love behind you
Pass it on

When the whole world’s draped in darkness
And one brave soul shines a light
On the frozen and the heartless
Finally breakin’ through the ice
Fear just melts away
Leavin’ hope to stand upon
We pass will it on

Chorus

Ain’t Done Yet

Look at all those candles
They say, oh my Lord, she’s old
Ain’t it time to hang it up
When the rockin’ chair meets the road
Now you’ve heard her voice on vinyl
8-tracks and cassette
But she’s still out here kickin’ ass
She says I ain’t done yet

I ain’t done yet
I ain’t done yet
As long as I have one more breath
I ain’t done yet
Woo hoo, hoo, yeah!

Look at all those doctors
I say, oh my Lord, they’re bold
Declaring expiration dates
On her very life and soul
But they’re not God, they’re guessin’
Though sometimes they forget
See, she’s still got a song to sing
She says I ain’t done yet

I ain’t done yet
I ain’t done yet
As long as I have one more breath
I ain’t done yet
Woo hoo, hoo, yeah!

I was put here for a reason and, baby so were you
No one ever gets to tell us when we’re through

No, I ain’t done yet
I ain’t done yet
As long as I have one more breath
I ain’t done yet
Woo hoo, hoo, yeah!
Woo hoo, hoo, yeah!
